Day 7-Relaxing in Guangzhou

Today we took it easy and didn't do any tours. We had our first breakfast at the famous White Swan buffet and it did live up to all the hype. Pearl will try almost everything, but her favorite food appears to be watermelon. For those who know me, you are probably laughing because you know this food is on my top 5 list of food dislikes. I guess I will have to start buying them now.

Pearl is still a sweet and easygoing girl. She can get wound up, but not too bad. She is a ham for the camera and will easily flash a smile on command (as you can tell by most of the photos). The only difficult time for Pearl is naps and bedtime. I am not sure if she is just crying because she doesn't want to go to bed or if she is letting out deeper feelings from all the changes. She seems very attached to Pete and I and shows no interest in going to anyone else. She isn't clingy, and doesn't mind walking everywhere while Chloe rides in the stroller (or gets carried). Of course, she really likes Daisy too, so it may be a little tough when Daisy leaves us tomorrow to head off to college in England.

We had dinner with 3 other families who are adopting special needs children. It was at the local Thai restaurant and the food was very good. Both girls ate well and were in good spirits. You can see Chloe playing with a basket and Pearl kicking it up in Daddy's lap in the photos below.

Chloe is also doing well and hamming it up as usual. Tomorrow is the medical exam for Pearl. It should be short and simple.

I hope Daisy has a wonderful year in England, and you are right, it will be difficult for Pearl, but you are going to become even closer throughout this experience. She sure looks like a strong and pretty well adjusted little girl considdering all she is experiencing right now, and traveling all over the place. It will be nice for all of you to be home and continuing this adjustment in a stable invironment. Sending lots of love, Lisa

I am so happy to see Pearl having such a wonderful adjustment to her new family. It just makes me smile and cry happy tears to see her pictures and how joyful she is. Congratulations to Pearl and to your family. We are looking forward to seeing you back in CA.

p.s. Two of my students, Sherry and Liu also went to England for a year of college. In fact, Liu was in London when we were in China and we were unable to see him. Bummer.

I'm so glad Daisy was able to be with you on this adventure. What a great help she must be to all of you. I have really enjoyed following along as you have traveled and picked up little Pearl. She looks so happy, and appears to be adjusting quickly to her new forever familly. She and Chloe look so cute together. I Can't wait to see you all together.

Hi Guys,

I quickly got caught up on your last few entries. Glad to see Chloe is doing better. Pearl looks like she's having a blast. Pete, I visited your parents today, they're doing well. Your mom didn't remember me, but your dad did. It was a good visit. See you soon.

Marc

Hi Lori Pete Daisy, Pearl and Chloe,

I was finally able to get on your website. Pearl is another amazing Chengdu Princess. Chloe is darling. It seems that most of the "Yang" girls are finally coming home to their families. Anna and Iris are doing great. We had a reunion with another little Yang girl who lives in the next town over from us. She and Iris think they are cousins because they are both Chengdu girls. While in Chengdu,I found out from the director of the orphange that Maddie and Iris shared the same nanny in Chengdu. The staff was amazed to know the girls see each other very often.

We hit our "bumps in the road" once we got home and we all had to adapt to the reality of keeping up a home, Gary going back to work and recovering from jet lag and getting sick.

I have been thinking of you all often but have not been able to read your blog until today.
Wishing you a safe and relaxing trip home.
Love The McKenney's
